Geddes City Council Meeting
Monday, July 14, 2025
The monthly meeting of the Geddes City Council was held at the City Finance Office in Geddes, SD. The meeting was called to order by Mayor, Mike Krietlow, at 7:30 p.m. with the following council members present: Carol Oberbroekling, Monica Vander Pol, Andy Kok, Sue Schulte and Amy Rolland. Also present was Donna Paulson, Finance Officer.
Established changes to the agenda were streets, liquor license cost, and street sweeping.
No public input.
Andy Kok made a motion to approve the June, 2025 minutes. Carol Oberbroekling seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
June, 2025 financial reports were presented. A motion was made by Sue Schulte and seconded by Monica Vander Pol to approve these reports. Motion carried unanimously.
July, 2025 disbursements were presented. Amy Rolland made a motion to approve the July, 2025 disbursements and Carol Oberbroekling seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. Bills as followed were paid:

Old Business:
Brad Lawrence, Brosz Engineering, emailed another option for drainage on main street. This option was tabled. Donna will contact Brad to find out if it would reduce the cost any.
New Business:
Sara Rankin, SD Municipal League, emailed legislation that will take effect July 1, 2025. The first item was restroom and changing room access. Employees shall not grant to individuals of the opposite sex to use restrooms or changing rooms designated for the other sex. Due to the city having a unisex restroom, this item was tabled.
Second item was firearm possession by employees. Unless authorized under SD law, the possession of firearms or other weapons while at work or on municipal property, including buildings and vehicles, is strictly
prohibited (with the exception of law enforcement officers acting within their scope of the duties). The city ordinance already relates to this.
Third item was annual review of open meeting laws. The updated brochure was delivered to each council member and the Mayor. The brochure was reviewed and discussion was held on the brochure.
A request for an open container permit was received from the Charles Mix Saddle Club for 07-19-25, 07-20-25 and 08-09-25. Monica Vander Pol made a motion to approve the permits. Amy Rolland seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
A request for an open container permit was received from the Geddes Fire Department for 08-10-25 and from the Fur Trader’s Tractor Pull for 08-10-25. Sue Schule made a motion to approve these permits. Andy Kok seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
A request for an open container permit was received from the Lone Tree for 07-19-25, 08-08-25, 08-09-25 and 08-10-25. Carol Oberbroekling made a motion to approve these permits. Sue Schulte seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Discussion was held on the cost of retail (on-sale) liquor license and package (off-sale) liquor license. After discussion, Carol Oberbroekling made a motion to charge $300.00 for the on-sale license and $200.00 for the off-sale license. Sue Schulte seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Andy Kok informed the council that he asked Tom Bultje from Platte if the city could rent their street sweeper before Fur Trader’s. Tom informed him that the cost would be $140.00 per hour for the sweeper and $45.00 per hour for a man to run the sweeper. Sue Schulte made a motion to rent the sweeper. Carol Oberbroekling seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Carol Oberbroekling made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:11 p.m. Andy Kok seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
