Geddes City Council Meeting

                                                               Monday, January 12, 2026

     The monthly meeting of the Geddes City Council was held at the City Finance Office in Geddes, SD.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor, Mike Krietlow, at 6:30 p.m. with the following council members present:  Carol Oberbroekling, Amy Rolland, Andy Kok, Sue Schulte, Travis Gant and Monica Vander Pol.  Also present was Donna Paulson, Finance Officer.

     Established change to the agenda was barking dogs.

     No public input.

     Sue Schulte made a motion to approve the December, 2025 minutes.   Andy Kok seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously. 

     December, 2025 financial reports were presented.  A motion was made by Monica Vander Pol and seconded by Carol Oberbroekling to approve these reports.  Motion carried unanimously. 

     January, 2026 disbursements were presented.  Carol Oberbroekling made a motion to approve the January, 2026 disbursements and Sue Schulte seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.  Bills as followed were paid:

Old Business:

     No old business.

New Business:

     Letter was received from the Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Office indicating that a law enforcement official can be hired for special events.  The rate for the special events is $55.00 per hour per deputy.  Copy of the letter was given to the Geddes Development Corporation.

     A new representative from the council was needed for Planning & Development District III.  After discussion, Amy Rolland made a motion to appoint Travis Gant.  Andy Kok seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

     A new contract with the Code Enforcement Specialists was reviewed.  Their hourly rate increased from $75.00 per hour to $85.00 per hour.  Yearly retainer fee remains at $1500.00.  Carol Oberbroekling made a motion to approve the contract.  Andy Kok seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

     Donna informed the council that the Mayor & Council department was over budget by $1715.47, Finance department was over budget by $945.59, Insurance department was over by $1014.00 and the Parks department was over budget by $9982.27.  Sue Schulte made a motion to transfer $13,657.33 from the Election, Streets and Sewer funds to cover the above overages.  Travis Gant seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

     The council was informed that the RASDAK bike event will take place May 31, 2026 through June 5, 2026.  The bikers will be coming through Geddes and the council was asked about providing water and welcoming signs.  No action taken at this time.

     Carol Oberbroekling made the following resolution.  Amy Rolland seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.  BE IT RESOLVED by the City council that the following resolution, repealing all prior salary and wage resolutions, be passed and approved.  The Mayor, council and employees shall be paid once a month at the following hourly wage:

Mayor, Mike Krietlow – will be at $150.00 wages plus $60.00 per meeting.

Council members – S. Schulte, C. Oberbroekling, A. Kok, A. Rolland, M. Vander Pol and T. Gant – will be at $100.00 wages plus $30.00 per meeting.

Finance Officer – Donna Paulson - $25.00 per hour.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and council shall determine all foregoing salaries and wages.

     Mayor, Mike Krietlow, informed the council that an inspection was held in December, 2025 at the dump.  The only real concern noted was that the city needs to compost leaves.

     Several complaints have been received regarding barking dogs.  After discussion, Mike will talk to these animal owners.

     No building permits received.

     Carol Oberbroekling made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:13 p.m.  Andy Kok seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.
