Firstly, I would just like to say that there are many ways to do this. The way I am explaining it is using the method involving a router. You can use a hub or a switch in place of this and follow essentially the same steps.

The first step is to plug the network cable from your modem into your router (in the WAN port), (It should already be there…). Next you need to run a network cable from a different port of the router into the Xbox (again, should already be done). The final step is to run a network cable from the router into the NIC that should be installed in your computer.

Thats the hardware set up, now its time for the software. Download the XBC software and install it. Do everything it tells you to (including making an account). Essentially what the software does is create a LAN network… but one that is connected to people around the world. Because of this, you don’t need to be able connect to the microsoft servers and this is why it all still works. This will also work for other xbox originals games, even Halo: CE

I would recomend only playing this with friends due to the high amount of modders out there.

HALO 3 has several game type. One of the more popular types is Capture the Flag. This is a game type using team play. Each team tries to capture the other team’s flag and bring it back to their own team’s base while protecting their own. When one team succeeds at capturing the opponent’s flag three times, the game is won. These strategies can help you win Capture the Flag on HALO 3.

Guard your Own Flag: It is important to protect your own flag. A combination of offense and defense is needed. It is easier to keep your flag than it is to chase the enemy down to retrieve it or stop them from scoring the capture. It is best to use a minimum of three men, strategically placed in the middle of the map. Forming an arrow point, the center front one man is used as bait and positioned as close to the middle of the map as possible as possible. Two teammates are stationed just behind and off to the left and right. As the opponent approaches, the lead man will take fire but can tell the teammates where the enemy is, making locating and killing them easier. A fourth man, standing in a higher location to gain a better vantage point and armed with a sniper rifle, normally does most of the killing.

Capturing the Opponent Flag:  You don’t want to try to capture the enemy flag while the other team is fully intact.  Wait until several members of the opposing team have been killed before making your move. As Capture the Flag has a ten-second respawn – a delay of ten seconds before a killed player returns to the game – the best strategy is to attempt killing three opponents in rapid succession then rushing in to capture the flag.

Retrieving the Enemy Flag: Once the enemy team is reduced to one man, send your man in to capture the flag. Don’t worry about killing the last opponent unless he is right there with the flag. Once you have picked up their flag, head back toward your base by going up the middle toward your point man. From the moment you pick up the flag, continually drop it and pick it up again. The philosophy behind this is that the man carrying the flag moves slower than he would without the flag. Since you can pick up the flag when you are within two feet of it, the repetitive dropping and picking up, allows you to move faster while carrying the flag than if you just held on to it. The drawback is that every time you drop the flag, a marker appears on the screen telling the opposing team where the flag is so they can retrieve it. This obviously makes it easier for them to find you. Once you reach the point man, your teammates can help protect you and you are almost safe. Continue the dropping and picking up of the flag to speed your journey across the map. The sooner you get it to the base, the better. If this is not the third capture, you will want to be able to rejoin your teammates quickly for the next round.

Counter Capping: This is a strategy is used to stop an opponent from scoring a capture against you. Since a team must have possession of their own flag in order to score a capture of the opponent’s flag, this method stops the score when you grab their flag just before they can score with yours. You cannot score a capture at this point either so immediately drop the flag and kill their flag carrier and anyone near him that could pick it back up. Now all you have to do is guard your own flag until it respawns back to your base.

Or should I run about like a headless chicken and get in as much fighting as possible? On search and destroy should I sit right back and wait to avoid new tube’s or run straight for the front line? A major talking point in the forums is which weapon classes you should use and in which games? Its difficult to know what is best as I am sure certain classes will suit certain players, i.e.

and aggressive player might not see the need in UAV jammer. There are also game theory problems that people must address when playing the more tactical games such as hardcore search and destroy, sabotage or headquarters. A good strategy is to watch people who have a really high score and see what there up to!
