History of Geddes, taken from "Epic of Papineau's Domain" by Adeline S Gnirk:

Geddes was plotted by the Chicago, Milwaukee and St Paul Railroad Company in Feb. 1900. The first lots were sold on March 21, 1900. Geddes was named for D. C. Geddes, an official with the railroad.

Geddes is home to the oldest newspaper in the county. The Charles Mix County News was established in 1884 at Darlington and a few months later moved to Edgerton, was moved to Geddes in 1900.

In 1910 the population was 701; in 1920 it was 695; in 1950 it was 502; in 1960 it was 430; in 1970 it was 303; in 1980 it was 308; in 2000 it was 252.

In 1963 there were 73 business places in town. At one time there were two movie theatres, two newspapers, two banks, 5 elevators, 4 lumberyards, hotels, cafes, furniture stores, several implement dealers, general stores, drug stores, livery stables and many other businesses.
